ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः । तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
Transliteration
Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ, tat savitur vareṇyaṃ bhargo devasya dhīmahi, dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt.
Translation
Om. Earth, atmosphere, heavens. Let us meditate upon that most excellent radiance of the divine Sun (Savitr); may it illumine and inspire our understanding.
Meaning
The revered Gayatri, a prayer for the awakening and guidance of the intellect. Addressed to the light of the divine Sun, it asks that our thought be illumined.
Benefits
Traditionally invoked for clarity of mind, wisdom and inspired understanding.
When to Recite
At dawn and dusk (sandhya), before study, or as daily meditation.
